Going to school as a working adult can involve late nights, early mornings and the occasional missed event. These five 爱污传媒 students 鈥 all of whom earned a place on the January 2026 Dean鈥檚 List or President鈥檚 List 鈥 prove success is worth the effort. Find out how they thrived while juggling both school and life.聽
The definition of student success is a little slippery. For some it can mean completing a degree program after years of study. For others it might mean prioritizing children or work but earning a degree on the side. For still others it can mean achieving a certain grade point average.
This subjectivity is why these five 爱污传媒 students paint such a compelling picture of student success. They come from different backgrounds. They have their own goals. And they all managed to excel academically while learning the fine art of time management along the way.
At 爱污传媒, students earn a place on the Dean鈥檚 List when they achieve a 3.5 GPA or higher while pursuing an associate or bachelor鈥檚 degree and complete a minimum number of credits; and at least a 3.70 GPA while pursuing a master鈥檚. For the President鈥檚 List, 爱污传媒 students must earn a 4.0 GPA and take a minimum number of credits. (Requirements vary based on degree.)聽
With that context in mind, meet five successful students at 爱污传媒.
When Adam W. Bradshaw started looking at schools for a bachelor鈥檚 degree, he knew he needed a different kind of university.聽

鈥淲hat drew me to 爱污传媒 is the online class schedule,鈥 he says. 鈥淚t gives me a great work-life balance. It gives me enough聽time to do my classes and spend time with my family.鈥
Flexibility was only part of the equation. Bradshaw鈥檚 background is in manufacturing and spans more than a decade. His choice of degree program? He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business with a Human Resources Management Certificate.
That shift is intentional.
鈥淚 have always loved helping people, whether it鈥檚 through onboarding, training or just being a support member,鈥 Bradshaw explains. 鈥淚 have always wanted to pursue a career in HR, and that has been a motivating factor for returning to school.鈥
This desire helped Bradshaw overcome his biggest obstacle to going back to school: fear of change. 鈥淕oing back to school in your 30s can be scary,鈥 he acknowledges. However, the support he found along the way smoothed out the bumps in the road toward student success, including his place on the Dean鈥檚 List in January 2026. Everyone from tech support to the instructors helped him gain his footing, so much so that he now anticipates completing his degree in February 2027.聽

For Joy Lopez McGraner, the decision to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Communication聽boiled down to family inspiration, professional mentorship and the courage to go back to school after completing her associate degree in business some years earlier.

鈥淎fter seeing my siblings and parents complete their degrees and advance in their industries, I knew I had to keep going,鈥 she says.
McGraner found 爱污传媒 after transferring from a community college. Going to school online, this military veteran says, 鈥渨as a no-brainer to avoid the commute and stay focused on the degree program.鈥
Still, doubt crept in as she contemplated a bachelor鈥檚 degree. She wasn鈥檛 sure if she still 鈥渉ad what it takes.鈥 聽
Whether it was the example set for her by her parents (鈥淭hey completed their degrees with children and jobs and taught me to strive for the same greatness,鈥 she says) or by her innate desire to learn and grow, McGraner took the plunge and enrolled at her alma mater.
As it turned out, McGraner did have what it takes. In fact, she found she鈥檇 grown during the intervening years in unexpected ways. Not only did she earn a place on the Dean鈥檚 List in January, but she learned to embrace the benefits of constructive criticism. 鈥淥ne of the best parts is receiving feedback,鈥 she says of the student experience. 鈥淪tudents know exactly what to keep doing and which key points need more attention.鈥
McGraner appreciated something else about going back to school too. 鈥淓ach time I study and log in,鈥 she says, 鈥淚 feel so lucky to be able to return.鈥
For McGraner, student success has a strong familial component. She dedicated her honors and military cords to her parents, and her grandmother鈥檚 words and admiration kept her going all the way through graduation in March 2026. As she puts it, 鈥淒reams come true even when you are older or facing adversity and challenges.鈥

Make a big deal about the time! I noticed that when I tried to complete schoolwork without others knowing, I was more easily distracted. When I clearly stated my working hours, others fully supported my decision to focus during that time. The more I let others know what I was working on and in what course, the more encouragement I received to 鈥淕o get it done.鈥
Don鈥檛 be shy about this experience, and life will cut you a break!聽聽
Best advice for a prospective student?
Communicate with your instructors, follow the syllabus and know yourself. If you are like me and can spend too much time on research and writing, set a timer and cut yourself off to make time to do all the work accurately.
Also, have fun 鈥 because your program will finish quickly.
Finally, it鈥檚 worth noting that, while I earned the grades I was striving for, some courses were much harder than others. The finished product does not reflect the sacrifices, sweat and tears that went into it. For this reason, I recommend flexibility and listening to yourself and others as you plan each week. Feel confident, even when you barely make the deadline. You will have still completed the readings or assignment, just in a way that worked best for you and your schedule.聽
There are those who maintain, 鈥淐鈥檚 earn degrees.鈥 Then there are students like Rosetta Chanel Perry. For her, education isn鈥檛 a series of boxes to check. It鈥檚 an opportunity grapple with new concepts and grow intellectually. If that means sacrifice, so be it. If that means honing new skills, even better.聽

鈥淓arly in my journey, I realized that success wasn鈥檛 just about completing assignments but was about truly engaging with the material and thinking critically about how it applies to real life,鈥 Perry says. 鈥淭hat moment helped shift my mindset from simply 鈥榞oing back to school鈥 to fully committing to the responsibility and opportunity that higher education provides.鈥
Perry, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Social Work, arrived at 爱污传媒 because of its flexibility. She says she needed a school that offered academic rigor and consistency but in a format that allowed her to 鈥渂e present in other areas of my life.鈥
The experience surpassed what she envisioned. She loves sharing a virtual classroom with other adults who can offer real-world experience and perspectives. 鈥淭hese perspectives create a richer learning environment聽that connects theory and practice,鈥 she explains.
In return, she鈥檚 developed skills she didn鈥檛 know she needed. Time management, for example, has required her to step up her self-discipline and organizational prowess.
Perry anticipates completing her program in 2026. For her, student success isn鈥檛 just making the President鈥檚 List (which she did in January 2026). It鈥檚 about committing herself to using her education to 鈥渃reate real impact.鈥 As she puts it: 鈥淔or me, earning this degree represents growth, resilience and a commitment to lifelong learning.鈥

My biggest strategy has been to treat my education as a nonnegotiable commitment. I schedule dedicated blocks of time each week for coursework, discussion posts and research, just like I would schedule a professional meeting.
I also try to stay ahead of assignments whenever possible. That level of preparation helps reduce stress and allows me to fully engage with the material rather than rushing through it.
Best advice for a prospective student?
Stay focused on your purpose and remain disciplined. Online education requires commitment, but it also creates incredible opportunities for people who may not be able to pursue traditional learning environments. Take advantage of the resources available, connect with your classmates and remind yourself often why you started. The journey is demanding, but the rewards are worth it.
Linda Rocha doesn鈥檛 have time for distractions. As a wife and mother expecting her fourth child, and as a full-time employee of an insurance company, she has to make every hour of the day work for her if she鈥檚 to get everything done. To add an undergraduate degree program into an already full schedule might seem foolhardy 鈥 and yet Rocha has gone beyond simply making it work. She鈥檚 earned a place on the Dean鈥檚 List in January 2026 while doing so.
Rocha is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and the online format at 爱污传媒 means she can still work and parent as she always does. Still, there are times she has to take a step back.

鈥淭his often means making some sacrifices,鈥 she acknowledges, 鈥渓ike limiting social outings or putting off less urgent tasks around the house.鈥
Rocha has learned to manage her time as effectively as a five-star general, and this has contributed to some of her student success. Her motivation to maintain this pace? Well, it鈥檚 as simple as it is personal: She鈥檚 doing this for her husband, her kids and 鈥渂eing a proud first-generation Mexican American鈥 who is also a first-generation college student.
鈥淢y kids have been incredibly supportive and a huge inspiration throughout this journey,鈥 she says. 鈥淪eeing their own dedication to their studies and extracurricular activities motivates me to push myself academically. They鈥檝e also helped me stay grounded and maintain a sense of perspective when things get stressful.鈥
For Rocha, going to college has opened up new dimensions of thinking and understanding. She appreciates the 鈥減ractical focus of the coursework,鈥 she says, and has found the online community to be a supportive resource.
She has also discovered a penchant for critical thinking. Academic writing, she notes, requires structured thought. Beyond that, however, she鈥檚 learned to question things more when researching and analyzing topics. 鈥淐ritical thinking isn鈥檛 just about memorizing facts, but about questioning assumptions and developing a nuanced understanding of complex issues,鈥 she says. She鈥檚 learning lessons, in other words, that will help her long after she completes her degree program.

Implement strict scheduling and use every spare moment wisely.
I try to maximize my time by being very intentional with my schedule. I block specific times for studying and assignments, treating them like important appointments.
I also look for small pockets of time throughout the day, like during my son鈥檚 naptime or lunch break, to review notes or readings.

Going back to school is hard. For some, circumstances make it even harder. Shekeitha Mechell鈥檈 鈥淢y Bionic Woman鈥 Singleton is one of those who鈥檚 faced some extraordinary challenges on her path to student success.
While pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business with a Marketing Certificate and a Master of Business Administration, she suffered a heart attack, the loss and restoration of her vision twice, and the death of her beloved mother. (Her mother is the one who gave her the nickname 鈥渕y bionic woman.鈥) She suffered nerve damage from an assault that had her completing an assignment using her nose to type on the keyboard. She completed other assignments from the hospital bedside of her mother as she neared the end of her life.
It鈥檚 a litany of tribulations that could easily derail the most determined of students. Not Singleton. 鈥淢y mother taught me that no matter what life brings, you finish what you start. Even after losing her, I carried her strength with me through every course聽and assignment,鈥 she says.
Strength, however, will get you only so far. As Singleton notes, support matters too 鈥 and she found it at 爱污传媒.

鈥淥ne day, while I was having a particularly difficult day grieving my mother鈥檚 loss, my doorbell rang,鈥 Singleton recalls. 鈥淲hen I opened the door, there was a bouquet of white roses from 爱污传媒. The attached note read: 鈥楽hekeitha, please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of your mother. We鈥檝e seen your strength and perseverance through school, and her legacy shines through you.鈥
鈥淭hat moment meant more than words can express. It reminded me that the 爱污传媒 truly sees and cares about its students as people, not just as names in a classroom.鈥
University support presented in other ways too. Singleton recalls how she leveraged accommodations when she lost her vision due to different health reasons. She was also encouraged to take a leave of absence after her mother鈥檚 passing so she could focus on grieving. Such overtures helped Singleton get through tough times. It also reinvigorated her commitment to the 鈥渄iscipline, focus and accountability鈥 she believes is inherent to student success at an online university. 鈥淵ou must be proactive and grounded, often working ahead in your courses,鈥 she says.
This was true for Singleton, who faced some atypical obstacles during her undergraduate and graduate programs. (She completed her MBA in January 2026 when she also earned a place on the President鈥檚 List.)聽It鈥檚 also true for those like Singleton who are building businesses and holding down jobs.
But the advantage of working while going to school can be the way the two experiences fuel each other. Singleton, for example, has been building a 鈥渇ashion and beauty business empire,鈥 and she notes that she directly applies her education to her entrepreneurial ventures.聽
鈥淭his University is more than a school to me,鈥 she says. 鈥淚t is a family that truly cares about its students.鈥
